The impact factor
The impact factor attempts to measure the impact it has earned a magazine in the scientific community. It is a tool used to compare journals and assess the relative importance of a journal within a particular scientific field.
How do I calculate it?
The impact factor of a journal is the number of times it is cited by an average article published in the magazine. Thus the impact factor of a journal in 2009 refers to the number of times articles published in that journal during the period 2008 and 2007 were cited in 2009.
Where can I consult?
To see the impact factor of a journal is the fundamental tool ISI Journal Citation Reports (JCR) , which is accessed from the website of the University Library .
What is it?
It is an indicator used to assess the relative importance of a journal within the total area of its magazines.
How do I calculate it?
Magazines are sorted in descending order of impact factor. Magazines total is divided into four equal parts. Each part is a quartile.Journals with the highest impact factor are in the first quartile journals with lower impact factor are the fourth quartile and in the middle are the second and third.
